Key Information for Tunnel Shipping Containers

Why choose a Tunnel Shipping Container?

Tunnel containers have improved access, they have 2 sets of standard double-doors making it easy to access both ends of the container.

Tunnel Shipping Containers are typically purchased by clients who want access at both ends of their container, they are also easy to convert for multiple uses (e.g. part storage, part office) and for use as personnel bridges.

Tunnel Containers are ideal for storage as both sets of double doors can be used so items can be loaded from both ends, making it easier to get stored goods into and out of the container.

Converting a Tunnel Container

Tunnel Shipping Containers can be converted in many different ways, just as you’d convert a standard container.

We have previously modified Tunnel Containers to install lighting and side windows.

Due to their construction material (corten steel) tunnel containers are ideal for secure storage – for example, by installing an internal partition it’s easy to create two secure storage units from one tunnel container.

Tunnel Container Sizes

We sell new condition tunnel containers in the following sizes:

  • New 20ft Tunnel Containers (Standard Height 20ft Double Door Containers)
  • New 40ft Tunnel Containers (Standard Height 40ft Double Door Containers)
  • New 40ft High Cube Tunnel Containers (High Cube 40ft Double Door Containers)

Tunnel shipping containers are typically only available in new ‘one trip’ condition, owners typically create them for a specific purpose so they hold onto them. There aren’t many tunnel containers available for resale in used condition.

Tunnel Container Construction

A Tunnel Shipping Container is manufactured in the same way as standard shipping containers, the only difference is a tunnel container has double doors at both ends (double ender).

Tunnel containers are either built (from new) as tunnels with 2 sets of double-doors or they’re modified from a standard container 20ft or 40ft shipping container, the solid end of the container is completely removed (back to the corner posts), then a new set of double doors is welded in place creating a two-way access.

A ‘tunnel’ can also be constructed from a high cube container, for clients needing the additional height.

What are Tunnel Shipping containers used for?

A tunnel shipping container can be used for a wide range of possibilities and are popular for a variety of reasons

As Tunnels

In its name ‘Tunnel Shipping Container’ it can be used as a tunnel/bridge with two sets of double doors it can be used as a walk through or drive through for clients and customers.

For Easy Access Storage

These containers are ideal solution to storage for two purposes with it having two accesses it means clients can easily store stock for personal / business use and easily manage all the stock levels working from both sides (where in a standard shipping container you may struggle to get items from the back of the container). Also, the second feature with storage in a tunnel shipping container, you can create smaller stores, if you had a 20ft tunnel shipping container you could split the container in half by adding a partition wall and create two 10ft storage containers both with double end doors.

For International Shipping

Although this isn’t common (typically standard containers are used for this), tunnel containers can also be used for shipping goods overseas, to do this they can be fitted with valid CSC plates to certify they meet shipping industry standards.

Tunnel Shipping Container Dimensions

They are typically either 20ft or 40ft in length and 8ft 6” in height, tunnel containers can also be manufactured using high cube versions for when you need the extra height (9ft 6″ rather than the standard 8ft 6″).
