Off shore DNV Shipping Container Features

We sell DNV Containers that are suitable for off-shore use in both new and used condition, these containers are built to withstand harsh conditions.

Typically, off shore / DNV containers are used for secure, dry storage of equipment, tools, and other materials used on rigs in the oil and gas industries.

The offshore environment necessitates containers that are stronger and more robust than a standard shipping container can provide, standard containers used in these conditions will over time deteriorate. Off-shore units are built to high standards in order to ensure they can withstand significant tilting. Tilting of up to 30 degrees may occur whilst loading or unloading in rough sea conditions, for example, whilst the container is being loaded onto a rigs deck.

Key Information for DNV Shipping Containers

Sold in 10ft, 20ft and 40ft sizes DNV containers weigh significantly more than standard containers due to the high-density steel used.

Offshore DNV 2.7-1 Shipping Containers are full steel construction, clients choose them for their stronger body.

The DNV 2.7-1 Standard

DNV 2.7-1 is a standard defined by the International Maritime Organisation. The standard states that an offshore container is a “portable unit, specifically designed for repeated use in the transport of goods and equipment to, from or between fixed and/or floating offshore installations and ships”. For more information on the DNV 2.7-1 specification please read the full 2006 standard here or the revised 2013 specification here.

In basic terms, offshore containers are specifically designed for the offshore market, so if you need a container for these purposes or a similar environment you should consider purchasing a DNV 2.7-1 Offshore Container.

We sell 10ft DNV containers, 20ft DNV containers, and 40ft units throughout the UK – ready for use off-shore. Please contact our team or enquire online for up-to-date prices.

DNV Container Construction

Offshore containers are designed and manufactured to DNV 2.7-1 or EN12079 standards, this enables these containers to operate in harsh environmental conditions.

The EN (European Standard) of offshore containers was initially developed in 1991 by CEN – the European Committee for standardisation, EN12079 was first released in 1999, then revised and replaced in 2006. EN12079 much like DNV 2.7-1 stipulates the design requirements, testing processes, and production criteria for compliant offshore containers.

Note that lifting sets and containers that comply with DNV (Det Norske Veritas) 2.7-1 will also comply with parts 1 and 2 of the EN12079 specification.

Offshore containers are constructed using a higher density of corten steel than is used in standard shipping containers.

The standards/specifications these units are constructed to ensure they can be loaded/unloaded safely at sea, and that they’re able to withstand extreme variations in temperature over a prolonged time period. DNV units are built to be more robust and durable, with full steel construction, including the container floor which would normally be made of wood on a standard container.

Offshore/DNV units usually come with certified slings and shackles (required due to the weight of these containers).

Please note, if the containers max gross weight exceeds 25,000 kg it would fall under DNV2.7-3, the DNV2.7-1 specification only applies to offshore containers with a max gross mass under 25,000 kilograms. If you require a container where the max gross weight may exceed 25,000 kg please let our team know during your enquiry.
